Did you ever have a breakthrough ride? That's not an official cycling term, as far as I know. But, I'm using it because it totally applies to what I did.
I headed out last evening, planning on doing just 10 miles. But, I couldn't stop myself. It felt so good and I was riding so strong and with such confidence. I was hitting and maintaining 19 mph. I was riding in bike lanes on streets that I had never felt up to doing before. I felt good and there was no way I was going to stop unless something stopped me. On the other side of town, I took out my little lights and popped them on the bike. The sun was going down and I was still in no rush to get home. I meandered my way around as I headed back. Eventually, I returned to my neighborhood but I wanted to top it off at an even 25 miles so I circled around a few times. I only stopped when I heard my phone ringing in my fanny pack. That's when I pulled under a light pole and saw that I'd done 25.5 miles. It was so dark out I couldn't see the computer. It had become the kind of pitch black where you can't see the pavement in front of your wheel. Not good. So, I cruised across the neighborhood and came inside. Then I had to explain to the hubby why he'd been waiting for me for so long to watch a movie together. ;-D
