Had a strange encounter with my Mom's bike yesterday. I bought a simple cyclecomputer to put on there for her, so when she cruises around her neighborhood she can see how far she's gone. I installed it and then got on to take it for a spin to make sure it worked okay. As soon as I put my right foot on the pedal and tried to take off, I got a surprise. It's a single speed, back pedal brake bike. Guess that's why there's no brakes on those big old cruiser handlebars... duh! Whoa! Haven't ridden one of these since I was a kid! Ha ha! Slight adjustment, and then I took off down the street. It was actually quite fun! Except that Mom's quite a bit shorter than I am, so after just one little lap around the block my legs were telling me that this was not the optimal position for them to be in. LOL!
BTW, while I installed the cyclecomputer and my Dad watched, I asked him that all important question... do you two wear helmets when you ride? He responded... no. I just gave him a look that said... the tables were turned, on this issue I know best, and that was NOT the appropriate response!
