Excellent ride this morning! The hubby and I met up with another couple and we hit A1A from Deerfield Beach to Ft. Lauderdale. It was 30 miles roundtrip, and we were shocked when we got to Oakland Park Blvd. When we saw the sign, the other girl and I started screaming because we couldn't believe we were that far south. It was hysterical! The four of us make a great group and a fun paceline. We're definitely going to sign up for a future event to ride together!

Countdown to Livestrong: just over 2 weeks...
The Livestrong Metric Century is just over two weeks away, and I'm getting ready! I've been riding and also working out more than I usually do. The bike just got a tune-up and I got new cleats for my shoes. Really looking forward to this event!

"Received my USA Cycling Official's License in the mail today! So... freaking... cool!!! LOL! Somebody get on a bike so I can start my stopwatch! Ha ha!"
Countdown to LIVESTRONG: 4 weeks to go...
Very excited! Florida's first LIVESTRONG event is 4 weeks from tomorrow! I've been riding on my own, in groups, and on the CycleOps trainer. I'm feeling really good! After I do this Metric Century, I've got to find a full Century ride for the spring! Yeah!
RE: "gestural"...
Wow! Googled and found out that "gestural" is indeed a real word. I'm happy that I was grammatically correct in describing the way we were flipping each other off! ;-)
Like I said... it's MY crosswalk, NOT YOURS!
A few days ago, I had a heated verbal and gestural (is that a word? screw it!) dispute with the driver of an 18 wheeler. He stopped at a large, busy intersection with the front of his truck completely through the crosswalk and into the intersection. The hubby and I were waiting to cross and not only was he blocking the crosswalk, but we obviously couldn't see the sign way on the other side of the intersection. I'll admit, I don't always play by the rules of the crosswalk signs. I use them as a guide, but ultimately make my own decisions for safety's sake. But at a huge, dangerous intersection like this one, it's nice to know when the sign gives you the right of way. The driver couldn't care less and literally yelled, "I can't stop in time." My response? "Then you shouldn't be driving a fucking 18 wheeler!" The hubby was pretty mortified. But, once again, I felt the need to stick up for my rights under the law and our safety.
If the guy had just said, "Sorry, I had to stop suddenly," that would've worked for me. But, to argue when you are blatantly wrong... uh-uh, I'm not buying that. So... you know... I called the corporate office of his major, nationally known company. The woman was quite horrified by the details of our "exchange" and, well... it made me feel a little better. However, I do need to find another way to deal with this shit out on the road because I do not want it to ruin my rides! It's hard to think straight in the heat of the moment, especially when you've been wronged under the law or your safety has been compromised. But, I need to work on it.
